Karneid castle stands on a steep rock face overlooking the town of Bozen in South Tyrol in northern Italy with foundations steming from around 1200. After changing hands many times over the centuries, in 1884 the castle was bought and restored by the Bavarian artisan & entrepreneur Baron Ferdinand von Miller and it is still owned by his descendants. Today Karneid is one of the best preserved medieval fortresses in South Tyrol and plays an important role in the life of the local community. In summer parts of the building are open to visitors and to paying residential guests.
